Can I use my health insurance on vacation?

People are always wondering what happens if they go on vacation and an emergency happens. Will my health insurance cover me? Am I automatically “out of the network”? That is not necessarily the truth. Most insurance carriers have a national network. If you are in the United States and a health emergency arises, you can call the customer service number on the back of your health insurance card. You will be told the names of doctors, hospitals and urgent care centers that are “in network” for the area you are in. You will be charged the same amount as if visiting your own doctor or hospital.
